Getting to Ostrava by air

Ostrava has a small internationl airport called Ostrava Leos Janacek Airport which is located about 30 km from University campus (Ostrava Poruba). In Ostrava there are two main train stations, Ostrava hl.n. (main station) and Ostrava-Svinov which is near campus (about 3 km).

Another option is to fly to Prague, Krakow or Katowice in Poland or Vienna in Austria. To get to Ostrava from those airports use buses or trains.

By car

The Czech republic has a network of highways and fast roads. To use a highway a highway stamp must be purchased and placed on the windscreen. Available at almost all gas stations. The 10-day highway stamp costs 310 CZK (13 EUR).

Getting to Campus

VŠB is easily accessible by all forms of transportation.

Tram or Bus

Local trams and buses offer a frequent way of travelling to and from the campus From Ostrava city centre or “Svinov Mosty h. z.” (railway station) to the University campus:

  • Tram No. 7, 8 or 17 direction to “Vřesinská” and get off at the tram stop “Rektorát VŠB”
  • Bus No. 37 goes directly to “Studentské koleje” which is next to the dormitories
  • You can use all of local public transport services with journey taking from 10 to 30 minutes
